The 20th annual Discover Engineering Family Day (DEFD) will be held tomorrow, Feb. 16, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. DEFD is a fun way to introduce students between the ages of 4 and 12 to the world of technology and show them how professional engineers turn ideas into reality. The event, which attracts thousands of people and kicks off National Engineers Week activities in the nation’s capital, provides a great opportunity to spur young people’s interest in the so called STEM fields: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
SIA has long supported efforts to strengthen America’s STEM education system in order to ensure future generations of top scientific minds in the U.S. One of the first steps in that effort is to get kids interested in technology at a young age. DEFD helps do just that, giving children hands-on experience with the science and technology in our lives.
As one of dozens of exhibitors at the event, SIA will explain to the children what a semiconductor is and why it is an essential component of the electronic devices that we use every day. We’ll have some cool gadgets and giveaways for the kids as well.
