Erik Hadland Joins Semiconductor Industry Association as Director of Technology Policy

Hadland joins SIA from the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, where he served as AAAS science and technology policy fellow and advisor to the director

WASHINGTON—July 18, 2023—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced Erik Hadland has joined the association as director of technology policy. In this role, Hadland will lead SIA’s research, development, and technology activities, as well as its education and workforce development efforts. SIA represents 99 percent of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms.

“Strong technology and workforce policies are central to the semiconductor industry’s ability to grow, innovate, and remain globally competitive,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “With impressive experience in science and technology policy, Erik Hadland will be an outstanding advocate for our industry’s interests in Washington. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the SIA team.”

Prior to joining SIA, Erik was a AAAS science and technology policy fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy, where he served as advisor to the director of the Office of Science, the nation’s largest supporter of fundamental physical science research. In addition, Erik worked on the Office of Technology Transitions’ Market Analysis team, where he investigated investment activities for nascent technologies. Prior to his government service, he was a senior logic process development engineer at Intel in Oregon. He did his undergraduate work at Wheaton College and holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oregon, where his work focused on inorganic semiconductor materials, solid state synthesis, and structural characterization.
